What do you think of these paranormal stories, which are false,...?

which are true? http://paranormal.about.com/od/trueghost鈥?/a>What do you think of these paranormal stories, which are false,...?
Here's one of my own...

When I was a kid I was down in the basement and

I found the wires that go to the front doorbell. All I

had to do was touch the 2 wires together and the

doorbell would ring.

I actually had my parents convinced that the house

was haunted for awhile... until they found me down

in the basement laughing my A55 off !

JeanieWhat do you think of these paranormal stories, which are false,...?
Given the parameters, I am going to say the first story is false. It seems the most verifiable. However, just because they say one is false and the rest are true doesn't mean the rest are actually true. There used to be a show on with this same theme, it was hosted by the second in command on Star Trek: the Next Generation, and it would tell you a couple of stories, then at the end it would tell you which one's were fake and which were ';real';. But just because they said they were real doesn't make them so. I think the show was called ';Fact or Fiction';, something like that. Perhaps all the producers of the show required for something to be real is to have someone actually report that it happened, but I personally require a bit more than that.
I found no compelling stories on that site.
I think that the first one might be fake.

Teleporting?

But whatevs, my opinion.

Disney Fairy Tales: Great Kids Stories or False Messages?

Good question. I think Disney stories are more of great fairy tales for children BUT false messages to the adults.

When I was a kid, I used to enjoy Lion King, Peter Pan, and Pinocchio. That's what all kids enjoy. Disney was so smart. He captured millions and millions of young audiences through brilliant characters, vivid graphics, cute storyline, and lively theme songs.

Now that I'm adult, I can't help but clasp Disney's obvious motives. Disney continuously provides more deceitful messages to innocent children. Some of them are racism, superiority, damnation, cultural violence, and social indifference among others.

He wanted us to believe that his works were created to provide entertainment and amusement among children, but the very messages he wanted to publicize through his works were obnoxious.

|%26lt;ryptonDisney Fairy Tales: Great Kids Stories or False Messages?
Disney didn't create the fairy tales, they just anaesthetised them - those were written by Hans Christian Andersen or the Brothers Grimm, and there was usually a tragic element to them.

Think of the original story of The Little Mermaid. She became human because she fell in love with a prince. She couldn't get her prince to fall in love with her, and drowned herself in the sea (as a human, she could no longer live under the sea). The foam on the waves is supposed to represent her spirit. There were certainly no singing lobsters or crabs!Disney Fairy Tales: Great Kids Stories or False Messages?
They're great stories that inspire you to do different things ie with Beauty and the Beast: don't judge someone by what they appear to be. Cinderella: if you really want something go after it (well you learn it from the prince not from Cinderella herself) Enchanted: show someone you love them and that's how you'll get your happily ever after. They're great stories that give you these and more messages. They all teach you to use your imagination and that's a great thing.
The majority of the fairy tales and stories that Disney make are not their own. They are in fact hundreds of years old and come from all over the world. Disney buy the rights and then mutilate the original story so much that it is practically unrecognisable.

It angers me that moviemakers do this kind of thing, but Disney do make good kids movies. I don't know what false messages you mean, but I do know it's a shame that most kids will never know the true stories.
I loved them as a child because it was pure escapism, why shouldn't children dream of totally unrealistic things- we all do it even now. And I mean, c'mon at the grand old age of four or five you don't even understand the term feminism and the whole world culture at the moment is so 'politically correct' it's unlikely kids are going to pick up any unsavoury messages. Can you imagine your childhood without Disney? I think we're trying to make kids grow up too fast and they should be allowed to come to their own decisions when they're old enough.
The older Disney films are based on worldwide tales. These tales explored many aspects of human nature, and were not exclusively told to children. Bettleheim has written an excellent book on the importance of fairy tales mainly from a Freudian aspect. Although Disney has cleansed the tales to fit its audience, the basic messages are still there.
I think that Disney fairytales are great kids stories. I loved to have them read to me or watch the movies when I was really little! Exspecially when my mom would curl up with me! = )

Now that I am older I still love to watch the movies, my favorite is Cinderella. However, when it comes to reading the fairytales now I would rather read the originals by the Grimm Borthers. They are quite a bit different, but very good. = )
great kids stories. as a lot of them were grimm or hans christian handerson stories that have been modified to be less scary or to have a nicer ending. kids should have something good in their lives which is why fairytales exist. obviously the original fairytales that disney remade were better but that was cos they were written for an adult audience too - more of like a mythical story. disney films have been simplified to have a happy ending but still a good story and i think that's what really matters when it's kids involved. also disney films are designed to be fantasy/adventure aimed at kids. it cannot be false messages if its make believe.

ps if i hadnt watched disney films as a kid i would never have anything happy and pure to watch that doesnt involve horror/violence/sex etc.
I think the great stories of disney's past have now been replaced by a more sinister message to kids. Disny seems to be more interested in massive profit and merchandising than they do in making the great films they are world renowned for. The tripe that they are producing these days. Peter Pan 2, Cinderlla 3. Where will it end????????
If you look into the history of fairy tales like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty you will realise these are folk tales that are hundreds of years old, often quite dark, and not always with a happy ending! Disney has sanitised them beyond belief, the original stories are much better.
A large percentage of the stories were actually Grimm's fairy tales to begin with but sanitized with a ';happy ending.';

Plagiarized works sending a very sad misogynist message. If you want great realistic works try Grimm's.
i think a little bit of both. I'm going to go all feminist here. take beauty and the beast for example. belle just wants freedom and romance. both of her suitors try to put her in a Cage. the beast kidnaps her, imprisons her and is mean to her. but she sticks around a eventually he turns in to a prince. not a good message to send to little girls.
I think they are great for kids.

Yes they are a bit old fashioned in their attitudes to women, give false expectations perhaps etc, but it doesn't matter - compared to most of the films/games/tv kids are exposed to they are fine!
Great kids stories although many of them have underlying meanings... kids soon realise that they're not real (about the same time they learn about Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy) but I think a certain amount of fantasy stimulates the imagination. And Disney is classic entertainment!
i dunno

i think the origional fairy tales are much better and give across the correct messages

disney has changed all the old ones and made their own too

but it's not tradition....
LOL at the first answer!

Well, they are good stories for children, because children are excited about that kind of stuff, but they shouldnt be aiming that towards older people...haha
Well, they didn't write most of them, did they? I read The Little Mermaid and it says she has a beautiful singing voice. Sadly, the Disney version made her sound like Mariah Carey...
Great Fantasy stories, but no educational value-they are not allowed in my classroom!
Great Kids stories!

They might be a little twisted from the truth but they get the message across.. and make the story seem enjoyable!

:)
Essentially good, but generates higher expectations of romance!!
Twisted misogynistic patriarchal cartoons.
Great kid stories, kids need fantasies in their life.
Great stories not just for kids, still love the now i'm 25!!!!
I think harmless fun.

Everyone dreams of a 'happy ever after'

B
tales for children
i still love disney.... pure genious! [= x
They're great kids stories, if you're mental

Why do people Lie so much? Telling false stories about people. I got hurt in the process. She has issues?

We bought this house, using what would be our new neighbor across the street. She did the loan. My husband is a very upfront and honest person. He has been sober since 2003. He made a mistake by telling her anything at all. Trust me! We all have a past. However, his was a little more than most people. Anyway, She decided that before we moved in she would go share all of what my husband told her with all the neighbors. She told every one that he was a convicted drug dealer that was coming out of retirement to go back to his old ways. You must understand he was NEVER arrested or convicted of drugs. He did get a couple of DUI'S Now he is sober for over five years. He talks to kids/adults about the effects of drugs and drinking. So there was a red flag about my husband in our neighborhood. It did seem to backfire on her because everyone knows about his past and that he is a loving, caring, and hard working dedicated to his marriage and kids. We do so much for the other neighbors. Help!!Why do people Lie so much? Telling false stories about people. I got hurt in the process. She has issues?
That is the thing about lies- they all come back to haunt the liar one way or another. Invite your neighbors over to dinner, or around the holidays (July 4th is coming up!), or go to the next HOA meeting. Have your husband talk about his past, and maybe he can even do a presentation for the neighborhood's children (with parent's permission, of course) about how drinking and doing drugs is negative, and how it has really torn his life apart.

As to the person spreading the lies...that is up to you. Where I do not think that we should turn our backs on people just because they did something against us, I also feel that we should distance ourselves from people that only want to destroy our lives.

Hope everything works out for your family! Why do people Lie so much? Telling false stories about people. I got hurt in the process. She has issues?
You're going to need to counter-attack. She's going around saying bad things about you and your husband, maybe you need to go say some things (whether they're true or not) about her. She had no right to do and do what she did, and she deserves anything that's coming to her.
Becuase they have low self-esteem.

Do you think that ghost stories or UFOs are invented stories and that they are ALL false?

i mean all this people are lying and for what purpose?

do we agree there is some true behind some of these stories?

we cant say that there no science evidence. after all we didn't discover all the scienceDo you think that ghost stories or UFOs are invented stories and that they are ALL false?
If we are that ignorant to think that in this whole universe that we are the only occupants, then i think we have alot to learn don't you.?Do you think that ghost stories or UFOs are invented stories and that they are ALL false?
Belief in ghosts is an ancient concept and fills the human need to believe in some sort of existence after death. Even one as unsatisfactory as a lingering spirit.

There are always UNIDENTIFIED flying objects. How you identify these objects seems to be cultural. If you believe in angels you will likely ';see'; and angel. If you believe in ';faeries'; you will identify objects as faeries, unless you decide the object could be a dragon. Currently people are great believers in technology, so identified objects are technological artifacts rather than faeries.

UFOs seem to be filling some psychological need. Perhaps the same psychological need that angels once filled, just dressed up in modern language and using modern scientific concepts to justify. Probably the need to believe in beings older, more powerful and wiser than ourselves. In other words: GODS. Just put into technological garb. And justified with questionalbe technological-scientific rationales.
I think it is extremely likely that there are other living planets in the Universe.

I also think it likely that there are no UFO reports that are actual visitations by aliens from elsewhere. I think that if we were visited by aliens, we'd either know it in a big, big way and there would be no doubt, or we'd be totally unaware of their presence. Reports of strange lights in the sky and being abducted from your bed by little grey men are just pathetic and utterly ignorable as evidence.

I say there is no ';scientific'; evidence. There may be evidence, but it's not scientific. Scientific evidence is of a higher, more reproducible quality than ordinary evidence.
The chances that we as a planet are the only life is highly unlikely. I think that some of the reportings are false, but I also believe that some are true. If you think about it, there are billions upon billions of stars in the milky way alone. As for ghosts, I think that they're just shadows.
It's pretty near impossible to prove a negative. I don't doubt that the probability of extraterrestrial life is very, very high--only that, so far, there has not been any compelling evidence of their presence here. As for ghosts, I think they are the product of vivid imaginations.
This all is bullshit.Only planet earth holds the Story of living beings.
no. i believe in ghosts and ufos.

Does Congresswoman Nita Lowey know how many false stories have been disseminated by the LTTE?

for incidents that either did not occur or were misreported through their operatives and had to be rescinded by media sources?

http://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=1…

Is she aware that LTTE armed combatants are masquerading as civilians and carrying out suicide bombings, commando attacks and destroying infrastructure? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090214/ap_o…

Is she aware that the LTTE has used every ceasefire to rearm and carry out further attacks on innocent civilians of all ethnicities? Does she know that there are nowhere near 250,000 civilians in rebel held areas and currently there are actions to stop armed terrorists from bleeding into highly populated districts from their limited combat zone. A new CSZ has been created from where organized evacuation operations utilizing military personnel has and will continue to occur.

http://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=1…

Inaccurate and blatantly false reports about this CSZ as well as the former CSZ have actually been floated by LTTE operatives in an area that is adjacent to the zone, where terrorist continue to strike at military and civilians. The following is video footage of the hospital that was allegedly bombed by the military that received so much press a week ago.

http://infolanka.asia/news/general/air-f…

The proximity to a major city that had been liberated and resettled over the course of the last year, where injured civilians are receiving care and a maternity ward with over 500 pregnant IDPs that escaped Tiger Terror and are receiving observation and pre-natal care.

“*500 fleeing pregnant women admitted to Vavuniya hospital in Northern Sri Lanka :: Vavuniya: Nearly 500 fleeing pregnant women have been admitted to Vavuniya hospital after they have reached the government controlled areas safely, Health Ministry said.”

[Saturday, February 14, 2009, 09:10 pm SL Time]”

The correct figure for the civilian population was 112,000 prior to humanitarian missions in the Wanni. In the last weeks 40,000 persons have been registered at IDP centers and estimates are that another 40,000 have relocated to other areas prior to the localizing of the current military operations. Healthcare, shelter, freshly prepared meals, facilities, education are all being provided for IDPs

http://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=1…

Considering how the LTTE has wedged themselves in between 2 civilian groups. These are some of the many reasons that Sri Lanka will not allow terrorist to use civilians as human shields and have taken a strong stance that prior to full disarmament and revocation of the use of terror tactics that a ceasefire will not occur.

Our political solution does not give rise to further restructuring terror organizations. It is democratically and civilly based on restoring franchise rights and inviting all parties that have now disavowed terror tactics to participate

Our political solution is as follows: http://www.asiantribune.com/?q=node/1560…

Sri Lanka sends our condolences to the families of innocent victims of Continental Connection Flight 3407. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090214/ap_o…

  • Why do churches and schools make false stories with the Nativity plays at Christmas?

The typical play of the new born Jesus in the crib being visited on by the three wise men of loving motives who followed a star seemingly of good manifestion to baby Jesus is not the accurate biblical account at all.

King Herod sent his ';wise men'; or more accurately the astrologers to locate Jesus and report his whereabouts so to have him destroyed (Mathhew 2:7).

The star they followed was Satan leading them to Jesus (Matthew 2:9).

The astrologers didn't tell Herod only because of God warned them not to (Matthew 2:12).

And Jesus was not a baby but a toddler (Matthew 2:16) of at least 2 years of age.

You would of thought the churches of all wouldn't promote this false account of the Nativity Play that has no scriptural basis but they are the worst for it. What else do they pass off?Why do churches and schools make false stories with the Nativity plays at Christmas?
Actually, the wise men were already searching for Jesus before Herrod asked them to tell him where they found Jesus. Matthew 2:9 absolutely does not say that the star they followed was Satan, nor is that implied anywhere in the Bible. What the Bible DOES say about the magi is:

    1After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem 2and asked, ';Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east[b] and have come to worship him.';

3When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ[c] was to be born. 5';In Bethlehem in Judea,'; they replied, ';for this is what the prophet has written:

6'; 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,

    are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;

for out of you will come a ruler

    who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'[d]';

    7Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8He sent them to Bethlehem and said, ';Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.';

9After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east[e] went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. 12And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

The part about Jesus not being a baby but a toddler when they found him is accurate, but the rest of what you said is not. Also, you called the ';Herrod's astrologers';, but it clearly states they weren't even from his country. They came there and since they were looking for a king, it was natural to start with Herrod. Why do churches and schools make false stories with the Nativity plays at Christmas?
Just because that's what you believe doesn't mean that's what everyone belives. Also, it's traditional, even if it's wrong it's what people expect.

Keep in mind they also teach that Columbus discovered America...even though the Native Americans were here thousands of years before as well as Vikings.
I think you need to relax. Yes the wise men did not come to see Jesus while He was in the manger, according to the bible. The story, as played out in schools, harms nothing.

Herod did not send ';his'; astrologers to find Jesus. The wise men stopped at Herod's palace....because they were traversing the land in which he ruled...and were told by Herod to report back when they found Jesus. They did not.

And of course satan did not lead anyone to Jesus...ridiculous.

Edit: Matthew 2:9 ';after they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was';. The star is not satan. It's a STAR.

Please be careful in twisting the word of God; it is not wise.
Elementary schools pass off a lot of stuff that is dumbed-down to the point of being flat our wrong... Christopher Columbus proved the world was round when people disagreed and so forth...

At least in this case, it leads to kids singing a cute song.
I can't agree with you on two accounts.

Nowhere does the ';star'; give account of satan.

Next, it says King Herod went to kill all male children 2 yrs or younger. This covers his whole intention. Nowhere does it mention how much time elapsed but I have a hard time believing the wise men took over two years for this small travel.

    You are wrong.
They were not Herod's wise men! They came from the east, they merely visited Herod and he asked them to find this new King they spoke of. you are reading much more into the passages then what is there.
    You cite passages from Mathew...

    Mathew who.. and what bible..?
How many schools do you know allow religious pageants?
Aparently it is a relic of the old culture, when people made public efforts to include God into their lives, where people kept close family ties, they took care of their old, and prayed for one another even long after they died, met on religious celebrations to check up on each other and talk about how the world was changing....
