Why do some people make up so many wild false stories to impress others?

Lately I've seemed to run into a majority of people who just start making stories up that can't possibly be true and exaggerating things. It's almost like they get talking and they just start spouting things without really paying attention to what they are saying. This usually happens with first time acquaintances. My lady says its because I these people feel insecure and that I tend to be a bit too (in her words)';articulate'; for them...thus causing them to have to act more than they are. She says that they do this to try to impress others. Have you noticed this in people. Do they even realize how false they appear, or are they doing this so much that it becomes just natural to ';make things up';?Why do some people make up so many wild false stories to impress others?
People always tell porkies, I've heard so many outrageous stories and it just does my head in. I like to mess with them and try trip them up, watch them trying to figure out how to answer. Some people are so bold though and just cover one lie with another bigger lie.

It is insecurity and fear of being boring and uninteresting which makes them do it and it becomes second nature. I work with racehorses and one guy was always telling everyone about all the races he had won so we checked with the Jockey Club and then asked him why their records only showed 1 second place and hundreds of unplaced. He still tried to bluff his way out of it but nuff said, he knew that we knew.

Call them out on it and watch them squirm, much more fun!Why do some people make up so many wild false stories to impress others?
For some people in that category, feel that the only way that can strike up a conversation with someone, is too exaggerate a simple story. Even though it's unbelievable, the distraction is played on that ';false'; story. They feel satisfied in knowing that they got your attention, not really caring if you believe it or not. It's based on a concept that when these people tell stories, they actually associate that with a visual.

They , the story tellers, are lacking the attention, companionship of someone, and when they do talk about an event, they want to make sure you pay attention and of course everybody else you might share that with. So by now the whole town knows how extraordinary they want to believe they are.
For the same reason that so many people refuse to believe anything that never happened to them personally. Closed-mindedness, I suppose.
because thats the only way they can get attention. :)
they want attention and ppl to believe they are macho
It seems to me that if someone wants to relate to you but they can find no common ground, they create one. I'm also beginning to wonder if there is a brain abnormality, dysfunction - whatever you want to call it - that causes some people to lie about anything and just about everything for no apparent reason.
